I’m Ryan McIntosh, originally from Scotland, and I first visited London in 2006. What was meant to be little more than a two-hour stop between journeys became my first real encounter with the capital. I took the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow into the city centre, and almost immediately, London had me.
What followed were years of return visits. Each trip revealed something new: a neighbourhood I had never explored, a hidden architectural detail, a quiet side street, or a fleeting moment that seemed to capture the character of the city. Eventually, after countless visits, I left Scotland behind and made London my permanent home in 2023.
London fascinates me because it is a city of layers. Historic landmarks sit beside modern skyscrapers. Wealth and hardship exist side by side. Every neighbourhood has its own identity, shaped by centuries of change, movement, creativity and resilience. Some people love London, others find it overwhelming, but almost nobody feels indifferent to it.
For me, it’s home.
Through The Curious Londoner, I photograph the details that are easy to miss: reflections in rain-soaked streets, textures in weathered brickwork, patterns hidden in architecture, and everyday scenes that reveal something quietly beautiful about the city. While London’s famous landmarks deserve their place, I’m often drawn to the smaller details people pass without a second glance.
My photography is a personal exploration of London, from overlooked corners to familiar sights seen from unusual perspectives. Whether you live here, once called it home, visit whenever you can, or simply admire the city from afar, I hope they help you see London differently.
